What’s being said between “Suite:Judy Blue Eyes” and “Marrakesh Express” on the Crosby Stills & Nash record?
Between tracks one and two on side one there’s a backwards message, but when I reverse it it sounds like gibberish or another language. Anyone know what’s being said?
Dayspring – Crosby Stills Nash & Young Concert (1969)
On November 9, 1969, Dayspring was the opening act in a concert headlined by Crosby Stills Nash & Young at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Also on the bill: Steve Miller and Sweetwater. Active in the LA rock scene since forming in 1968, the gig marked the culmination of a year in which Dayspring rose from playing clubs to sharing concert stages throughout the Southwest with Blood Sweat & Tears, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Spirit, Ten Years After, John Mayall, Poco, and The Spencer Davis Group. Dayspring was: Steve Nordgren (vocals, guitar, Hammond B3), Randy Hill (lead guitar, vocals), Bonnie Blunt (vocals), Craig Morley (vocals, bass) and David Canady (drums). No recordings of Dayspring have survived. Their original material, mostly written by Nordgren, featured long, intricately arranged instrumental passages with a heavy rock underpinning, topped off by powerful 3-and-4-part harmony vocals. The music used in this video is an alternate mix of the song, “Woodstock,” from the 2-disc compilation, “Carry On” (1991 Atlantic Records). Performed by Crosby Stills Nash & Young, the track was recorded on November 5, 1969, just 4 days before this show. Photos by Jim Loppnow.
Woodstock-Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (with Lyrics)
WOODSTOCK Well I came upon a child of God He was walking along the road And I asked him tell where are you going This he told me: Said, I’m going down to Yasgur’s farm Going to join in a rock and roll band Got to get back to the land, and set my soul free. We are stardust, we are golden We are billion year old carbon And we got to get ourselves back to the garden. Well, then can I roam beside you? I have come to lose the smog And I feel myself a cog in something turning. And maybe it’s the time of year Yes, said maybe it’s the time of man. And I don’t know who I am but life is for learning. We are stardust, we are golden We are billion year old carbon And we got to get ourselves back to the garden. We are stardust, we are golden We are billion year old carbon And we got to get ourselves back to the garden. By the time we got to Woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere was song and celebration. And I dreamed I saw the bomber jet planes riding shotgun in the sky Turning into butterflies above our nation. We are stardust, we are golden We are caught in the devil’s bargain, And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Our House (G. Nash) ~ Erwin Lazaro 078
Stability. The white picket fence. The American Dream. The Fourth of July is Independence Day for the United States. Today, Americans celebrate Independence Day for many reasons. Thankfully, because of ALL who fight for freedom, freedom continues to reign and the free world has the opportunity to enjoy freedom. Though, for many, “freedom” seems to be considered more of a luxury and not a staple of these times of economic hardship. If the United States and much of Europe is suffering, consider the effects of this flailing global economy upon “third world” nations that were already suffering before this current economic crisis. I’m not trying to be political, but this is a political holiday and appreciation is so very important, especially now; as it should be for always. I would like to soften the tone by focusing on something more personal. I want to go back to the “white picket fence”. My mom said that she always wanted the white picket fence. As a teenager, I knew what she meant, but I didn’t understand what she meant until I was much older. When I finally understood, I understood the underlying yearning that fueled her intention. What is the significance about the white picket fence? Home ownership? Thankfully, through my dad’s hard work, my family has always been Blessed with a home. Home is where the heart is. Stability? We lived in a very stable environment, always surrounded by love. The American Dream? In 1968, I was only eleven months old when my mom and I left …
